Cork is so amazing. It is a 100% natural, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable material. It is completely sustainable and harvesting it actually allows the trees to live longer and absorb more and more carbon dioxide.
Cork trees are not cut down to harvest cork. Rather, the bark is harvested by hand every 9 years which extends the life of every tree. Cork oak trees can live up to 300 years--that's amazing!
Aside from cork being such an amazing material to work with.... it is also super light and really soft to the touch, making Hello Lovely cork earrings a pleasure to wear all day.
Plus, using all the pieces left over from my bigger earrings, I use every single little scrap of cork and then mix and match to my heart's content. Any teeny tiny pieces left from that go in the compost. No garbage, ever. How's that for sustainable fashion?
